Venue and Directions

Venue

The Screen Studies conference will be held on the main Kelburn campus of Victoria University. (A campus map is attached.) This is about 1km east of the Wellington CBD. It’s on a steep hill, so we recommend catching a bus or taxi from town rather than walking. The conference sessions will be held in the seminar rooms on the ground floor of the Alan MacDiarmid building (see green arrow on map below). There will be a registration table in the foyer and plenty of signage.

Directions

By bus:
For those taking the bus up from the city, get off at the VicUniversity bus stop on Kelburn Parade. (See also the orange arrow on the map above). From there, walk up the hill towards the roundabout, where you’ll see an obvious construction site to your left. Follow the sidewalk through this to your first left. Turn here towards the Alan MacDiarmid Building, about 20 metres, and take the first set of stairs up (you'll see the cafĂ© Wishbone here, so you’ll know you’re in the right place).
Bus lines to Kelburn Campus: 17 (Karori), 18 (Karori), 20 (Highbury), 22 (Mairangi), 23 (Mairangi)
For timetables and other information, see Metlink

By cab:
For those taking a cab, let the driver know you’re coming up to Victoria University, Kelburn Parade, Gate 7, the Alan MacDiarmid Building.
There are several cab companies in Wellington. Below are two we recommend:
Kiwicabs is generally the cheapest. Phone 04 389-9999 or Free Phone at 0508 425 494.
Greencabs is an environmentally friendly alternative. Phone 0800 464 7336, or Free Phone at 0508 447 336.

By foot:
For those feeling in the mood for a vigorous walk up the (steep) hill to Kelburn, there are several ways to get to the conference venue. Please have a look at the following annotated google map we created for the conference.

Getting from the Airport into the City
Cabs from the airport cost approximately $30-$40. An alternative is the Airport Flyer bus which costs around $9.
